On our 2016 trip, we stayed at Volcano Lodge and decided to come back this year again because I loved it so much! It’s located in the perfect spot, only about 10 minutes from the nearest little town where shops and restaurants are located. We were well taken care of while visiting both times. The hotel staff is amazing and helpful if you need recommendations or taxis etc. so it makes traveling so much easier, even if you decide not to rent a car.
Our room’s back door opens up to a garden mixed in with the jungle. We were able to see beautiful birds and a sloth close by, too. Every morning they have buffet-style breakfast with typical Costa Rican food. I enjoyed fresh fruit, eggs, rice & beans, cheese or crema, and plantains with volcano views each morning. They also have fresh juices and coffee (that good Costa Rican coffee), and different pastries and meat.
My favorite part about Volcano Lodge is all of the hot spring pools with waterfalls. There are regular swimming pools, a jacuzzi, and also a hot spring pool with a swim up bar. The thermal springs are amazing! At night, we spent time in the thermal springs looking at the stars and enjoying Costa Rican beers. It was beautiful, the heat from the thermal springs was so therapeutic. Soaking in thermal springs has great benefits, unlike a regular jacuzzi. Thermal springs can assist with skin problems like eczema which I have, relieves body aches, and helps to detoxify your body. You can read more about the benefits here.
Volcano Lodge also includes a yoga deck that I enjoyed, a hiking trail, an outdoor gym, a spa, and a running trail. The sauna in the pic below is a huge barrel with a window looking out to the large pool. At night, you can also visit their 24 hour bar and play pool, too.
If it wasn’t for us wanting to travel to so many places throughout Costa Rica with such little time, I would’ve chosen to stay here. It’s a perfect place to relax, whether you want to practice your yoga or use the outdoor gym, or spend time at the spa and thermal springs.
To top it all off, it’s close to Arenal Volcano, waterfalls and hot springs, and town. Seriously, what more do you need? I recommend this place 1000%.
